Had another sequoia hatch youtuber install an electric button solenoid latch dealing on my 03 sequoia. Worked great for a couple years. Now it gradually became problematic to the point it's not working AT ALL. I'm planning a trip to our west TX cabin soon and can't even load our vehicle. Hoping this little cable and ball wasn't deleted by the previous solenoid hack? Gonna use a jig saw or Sawzall for my birth canal enlargement process. Great video! Thanks

My dad used a ziptie to fix the rear door latch and the driver door because hes too lazy to buy another but this method is best because you never have to change ziptie

I actually did it. Took me 1.5 hours and And I barely cut my knuckles just slightly. I use some curved aircraft tin snips rated for 18 gauge steel. So I only had to start the hole with the chisel. And then the rest was done with the tin snips.... I wanted to thank you for this video. It saved me another 150 bucks at the mechanic. I broke my second latch the other day. 🍻 👏 ✌️

Hi. I know this video is old. Apologies. Cool video and cool bike. I have a 2011 non sport model with rear derailleur only (7 speed) that I still love and ride. I should have bought the sport as it's frame has the additional tube for derailleur mount. Btw, Trek archive says 2012 is last year the Pure was made. Could yours have been 2012 perhaps?

there is better way to unlock it without cutting anything. just reach your finger straight from the center of the license plate below there is platic cover use clothe hanger wire poke it bend the wire like a hook slide it in about few inches in upward you'll feel the latch relaease hook on that and pull to the left pop open the gate.

GO REDNECK! If I go with this fix I might use a metal plate to cover the hole and a spring loaded slider to pull my cable to dress it up a little, but the access is great. Removing all that interior trim was a pain the first time I had to fix this problem.

Why would u do that and not go from inside remove panel and just drive a small hole and feed cable through. Why ruin your body like that

Thanks I may just drill a small hole but love the concept, if you have had one of these rigs long enough you've changed it the right way to many times and the replacements break even easier. F those damn handles, lol, thanks.

The additional “buckles” are called “D rings” and are for strapping the cooler onto things such as kayaks, motorcycles, ATV’s etc.

After replacing the handle multiple times on my 03 Sequoia, each time the handle worked for a while, however the lever pull still required a lot of pressure to unlock. I never thought to replace the cable. When I bought a new cable from the dealer, it was a game changer. I can now open it with one finger. So replace the cable and this issue will go away.
